We’re used to seeing cocktails garnished with a lemon or lime or maybe with a sprig of herb. That’s all perfectly lovely, but some bars are taking garnish concept and bringing it to a whole new level that’s very exciting.
At Ophelia in New York City, this cocktail is made with Manhattan Moonshine Whiskey, lychee liqueur, Cointreau, wormwood bitters, garnished with rambutan. “White Lightning was a nickname used in the prohibition era for high-proof, clear, unaged spirits, which embodies the idea behind this drink; a spin on the classic Manhattan cocktail. I wanted to create a cocktail that was eye-catching and captivating, and in order to uplift the simple appearance of the drink and compliment the lychee notes, I added the prickly rambutan for a contrasting visual element,” says head bartender Amir Babayoff.
